Jonathan Davis serves as the pastor of Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock, Virginia.

  1. Where did you grow up?

In the northern suburbs of Houston.

  1. What is your favorite verse, book or story in the Bible? Why?

Amos 5.

I’ve always been drawn to this passage, which Martin Luther King Jr. quoted in his “I Have a Dream” speech. I find it challenging that God tells the people their worship is insincere and displeasing if not authenticated by godly living.

  1. What is your favorite movie? Why?

“Schindler’s List.”

Spielberg’s masterpiece (which is saying a lot) is some of the best screenwriting, directing, acting and cinematography of all time, and it’s based on an incredible, true story of bravery and humanity in the face of unspeakable evil.

  1. Who are three people you admire?

Diana Butler Bass, Wally Goodman (director of Logsdon Seminary’s San Antonio campus) and the late Cecil Sherman.

  1. What is one little-known fact about yourself?

During my sophomore year at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, I was a cheerleader and would eventually propose to my wife on the 50-yard line at halftime while dressed in our school’s “Yellow Jacket” mascot outfit.
